How To Change an Ovation Ultra Acoustic Electric Guitar 9 Volt Battery

Touted as the next Twilight, "How To Change the Ovation Electric Acoustic Guitar Battery" has captivated audiences all around the globe and after years of campaigning by fans, is now available for free on Youtube. Without spoiling the twist ending, let's just say batteries do get changed, redemption once thought impossible is earned and the hero gets the girl. All kidding aside, if you've managed to get your hands on one of these fine instruments and discover it's no longer able to be amplified, chances are you will have to change the battery - which can be easier said than done on these older style guitars. Follow these steps: Locate the screw on the outer shell of the guitar, loosen it with a standard slot screwdriver (you can't remove it and therefore you can't lose it), loosen the strings so you can get your hand in the guitar, locate the battery compartment on the inside at the bottom, pull the battery compartment out of the sound hole carefully so you don't pull out the wires, remove the lid of the compartment by sliding it off (slide towards where the wires are attached - it can be tough to get off at first), remove the old battery and insert a new 9 volt, slide the compartment lid back on, put the battery compartment back inside the body of the guitar, try to line up the battery compartment (with the foam end DOWN) with the screw until it connects and then tighten the screw on the outside with the screwdriver (this took me 10 seconds other times I've done it but ...

Leaves from the Vine (extended version) (Now with Studio Version)

An acoustic cover of one of my favorite songs, Leaves from the Vine, from Avatar: The Last Airbender. My friend Pleading Eyes (the person for whom Long Road to California was written) had mentioned once that she wrote an extended version, and told me some of the lyrics that she could remember. I filled in the gaps. This was the result. Is anyone else tired of me just dancing around using A major and A major seventh? XD I'll learn more chords soon, I promise... ~*Lyrics*~ Leaves from the vine Falling so slow Like fragile tiny shells Drifting in the foam Little soldier boy Come marching home Brave soldier boy Comes marching home Those leaves did grow From branches overgrown Drifting slowly down Resting on the loam Little soldier boy Taken from home Forced to fight a war That's not his own Leaves from the vine Falling so slow Like fragile tiny shells Drifting in the foam Little soldier boy says "Carry me home" Sleeping soldier boy Is carried home Lyrics (C) Lucia Lobosvilla, Diana Rose and Nickelodeon. ~*NEW*~ Studio version GET! www.4shared.com

Ford 2012 Fiesta Walk-Around

Ford Fiesta features vibrant design and class exclusive technologies like available Hill Start Assist, which prevents the vehicle from rolling back on a slope by holding the brake pressure. And it gets up to EPA-estimated 40mpg on the highway. Fiesta has hidden details in the design, such as the acoustic laminated windshield, double layered door seals and expandable foam baffles in the pillars, which help keep it quiet. There's also Dragon's Eye Headlamps, available Intelligent Access with push button start, and integrated spotter mirrors for blind spot visibility. An Easy Fuel cap-less fuel system is spring loaded with no gas cap, so fewer evaporative emissions are released into the environment. The Ford tuned Suspension consists of MacPherson struts up front, a 22mm sway bar and a twist-beam rear suspension and it has Electric Power Assisted Steering for enhanced overall driving dynamics. AdvanceTrac with Electronic Stability Control automatically applies individual brakes and reduces engine torque whenever it detects wheel slip or lateral slides. Fiesta is powered by a Duratec 1.6L In-Line 4 cylinder engine, which produces 120 horsepower and 112 lb.-ft. of torque. It's also maintenance free with a fill for life transmission fluid that requires no dipstick and it's designed to last up to 150000 miles. Fiesta SE also has a SFE package, which stands for Super Fuel Economy. It gets EPA estimated 29mpg in the city and up to 40 mpg on the highway. A spacious interior is ...

New Home Studio Tour

Hi all, This is the end result of a recent refit I did for my home studio. What you see is the back half of my bedroom which I have partitioned off to build my studio space using acoustic office partitions. The room corners have large fibreglass insulation packages wrapped in cloth to act as bass traps with a few acoustic foam panels at the wall and ceiling reflection points as well as against the windows to reduce outside road noise. Since my last video I got rid of my Pro Tools HD2 system due to frustration with the direction of Avid and uncertainty about where they were going with the software and the HD line up. Seeing the recently released HD Native I must say it was a timely move on my part getting out of the mess. Decided to move to a more songwriter friendly setup using Logic Studio as my main DAW. Got to say I have never been happier and can't believe what a step up Logic is in functional capability compared to the now buggy dinosaur that is Pro Tools. I just wish I did this changeover sooner. Some kudos has to go to the PrismSound Orpheus which replaced my Digi 192 i/o. The Orpheus is a beast of audio clarity and matches beautifully with the X-Desk which has transformed my tracking and monitoring chain and the clarity of my mixes. For anyone who doubts the X-Desk and its "sound" and it's value for money you can take it from me it definitely is worth every cent. Hard to describe what it does to my audio chain but mixing just seems easier. Having a fully native ...

Insulation Comparison - Icynene

As a custom home builder, I'm often asked what makes the most difference when it comes to energy efficiency. Most people think it's insulation, which is partially correct. My answer - a thorough caulk/seal package and insulation. Before we insulate a home, our crews use caulk and expandable spray foam to close all gaps around windows, doors, electric boxes, framing gaps, venting pipes, etc., that could allow the transfer of air from inside to outside and vice-versa. Then we add a quality insulation such as cellulose, blown-in fiberglass (BIBS) or Icynene (spray foam). These insulations do cost more than standard fiberglass batts, but they also provide a much better thermal barrier which leads to greater efficiency. Icynene is a product that both seals and insulates in one step. We've used it in our homes and have been pleased with its performance. The only drawback is the cost - typically three times more than other insulation. Because of the cost it can be hard to convince my clients to consider Icynene. Perhaps this video will change some minds. Buddy Fisher is with Goley Insulation and his demonstration should help homeowners understand the differences between common types of insulation and the importance of a thorough caulk/seal package.

Turning My Closet Into A Recording Booth.MPG

This is a video I did for a artist I just started working with that's in another state, just explaining what I did to turn my closet into a home recording booth.. Helping to get the most outta the equipment.. I did it just using MEMORY FOAM COMBO I bought at Walmart and AURALEX FOAMTAK SPRAY ADHESIVE.. The brand name of the Memory Foam is MAINSTAYS. You can get the one for a twin bed or for a full bed.. Both are under $30.. How much you need just depends on your closet sizze. It's a very affordable way to get your mic to sound pretty good for under $100.. This works well for me, but as with everything else that has to do with recording and insulating a studio or booth, there's no one way to do it.. Hope you find this helpful..

The Different Types of Plastics and Their Uses

ABS : a terpolymer made from three monomers, acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene. Acrylonitrile and styrene provide chemical resistance, butadiene adds impact resistance and makes the plastic suitable for furniture, computer housings etc.

Acrylic: a hard thermoplastic made from acrylic acid or a derivative of acrylic acid. Best known as a glass substitute, typically under the trade names Perspex, Lucite and Plexiglas.

Amino plastics: Plastics made from ammonia based compounds, namely urea formaldehyde and melamine formaldehyde.

Bakelite : really a trade name but frequently used as a generic name for phenol formaldehyde (phenolic).

Cellophane : A Du Pont trade name for film made from regenerated wood pulp (cellulose).

Cellulose : The fibrous matter in all plant cells, with a long chain molecular structure. The most common sources used for making plastics are cotton fibres and wood pulp

Cellulose acetate: A tough thermplastic made from cellulose in the form of cotton linters, treated with acetic acid and acetic anhydride. Used for many domestic mouldings such as spectacle frames, toothbrush handles, and as transparent packaging film.

Cellulose acetate butyrate: A thermoplastic made from cellulose treated with acetic and butyric acids. Transparent, opaque or coloured, with excellent moulding qualities, used where more moisture resistance and dimensional stability than cellulose acetate is required.

Copolymer: A plastic made by polymerizing two monomers, eg styrene and acrylonitrile .

Elastomer: A synthetic plastic with the flexible properties of rubber.

Epoxy resin: A very tough thermosetting resin used as a coating, or reinforced to make mouldings or laminates.

Ester : A compound produced by the reaction between an acid and an alcohol.

GRP : Glass reinforced polyester, ie polyester resin strengthened by glass fibres, making the resin, which has no strength of its own, into a very tensile material. Widely used to build boats, furniture and cars.

HIPS : High impact polystyrene

LLDPE : Linear low density polyethylene, a new type of low density polythene.

Melalmine : Melamine formaldehyde, a thermoset produced by reacting (triaminotriazine) with formaldehyde. A tough glossy plastic usually strengthened with a filler of wood pulp.

Monomer: A simple low molecular weight compound. Polymerization links monomers together to form high molecular weight polymers.

Nylon: Not one material but a group of very tough and flexible materials called polyamides. Thermoplastic and usually found as fibres or used solid, as gears, zips and more recently as dyed jewellery.

Phenolic: abbreviated version of phenol - formaldehyde. Phenolic is usually reinforced with a filler, but cast phenolic has no filler and can be translucent. It can be easily coloured and is used decoratively for jewellery, radio cabinets and all kinds of ornaments.

Polycarbonate : A very tough thermoplastic, usually found as a substitute for glass, eg: vandal proof telephone kiosks, bullet proof shields, baby bottles and picnicware.

Polyesters : Complex ester compounds which are thermosetting and can be polymerized at room temperature, eg GRP.

Polymer : Another word for a plastic material: one which has been made from chains of molecules of one or more monomers. Polymers (plastics) are organic substances, made from hundreds or thousands of molecules linked together in a repeating chain pattern (also known as macromolecules).

Polymerization : The chemical process of linking monomers to form new compounds called polymers. For example, ethylene is polymerized into polyethylene, (polythene for short).

Polypropylene : A thermoplastic polymerized from propene, very close to polythene in molecular structure, but harder, stronger and less flexible.

Polystyrene : A brittle.water white thermoplastic polymerized from styrene - (phenylethylene). The brittleness is overcome by adding some butadiene, which results in toughened polystyrene also known as high impact polystyrene (HIPS), a copolymer of butadiene and styrene. Expanded polystyrene is the rigid white foam used for packaging.

Useful Information About Insulation

Insulation is a material that is used to slow down or reduce the flow of energy. The substances used to produce insulating materials are poor conductors of heat and electricity.

Insulators can be of several types. Thermal insulators slow down the transfer of heat energy, acoustic insulators reduce the flow of sound and electrical insulators prevent the flow of electrical energy.

Materials like fiberglass, rock wool and slag wool are widely used by the insulation industry. A large variety of materials may be used to make the insulators. These include organic, inorganic, rigid, soft, fibrous or granular materials. Generally, organic insulators are produced from petrochemicals and recycled plastic, while inorganic insulators are made from recycled glass and furnace slag.

An interesting research revealed that the insulation industry is among the leading industries in the U.S. It not only strengthens the U.S. economy and increases monetary savings for consumers, but also helps improve the state of the global environment.

The energy savings resulting from good insulation add up to big dollar savings. Interestingly, current insulation levels save U.S. homeowners approximately $74 billion dollars in energy costs each year, or an average of $780 per household. Without insulation, homeowners in the U.S. typically spend about $2,000 on energy each year; whereas, with the use of insulators, they spend an average of only $1,200. Current insulation levels have helped cut residential energy bills by forty per cent. Commercial building owners are also saving money on their heating and cooling bills by over $9.6 billion dollars a year nationwide, or an average of $2,100 a year per building.

Though existing insulation is saving enormous amounts of energy and pollution, there remains a substantial potential for cost-effective investments in building and industrial insulation. Residential buildings, commercial buildings and industrial plants, which are insulated with proper protocols, not only save energy but also help avoid a substantial amount of air pollution as well.

Auditorium Seating

There are a myriad of decisions that need to be made before purchasing seating for an auditorium. Auditorium seating is obviously one of the cornerstones of a good venue. Their aesthetics and comfort level contribute greatly to the overall feel of a venue. Another characteristic of great significance, however, is the acoustic property of the chair.

A poorly constructed chair can wreak havoc on the acoustics of an auditorium space. With acoustic engineers dedicating a significant amount of design time to how walls are constructed or the layout of acoustic panels that are placed on those walls, they sometimes overlook the seats themselves which cover a large portion of the auditorium. Few items in the venue will have as much of an impact on the quality of an auditorium's acoustics as the chairs.

Mitigating the challenges that come with attempting to create an acoustically sound environment means working with a seating solution that will address acoustics in two ways, first is when the seat is occupied and second is when it is not occupied. When the bottom of a chair is folded up it will have entirely different acoustic properties than when someone is sitting in it. Engineers use, for example, wood backings under the chairs with evenly spaced holes to minimize sound wave reverberation. The foam padding employed in the seat is another area of importance to be considered. Most qualified chair manufacturers will list the acoustic properties of their chairs in terms of "absorption coefficients". This number is a great way for engineers to determine how their chair is going to perform once installed. Typically these figures will be attained by performing tests in a certified reverberation room laboratory.

Testing methods employed should be according to ASTM C423-90a and E795-92. The laboratory will test at a series of different frequencies, recording the absorption sabins per unit at each frequency to determine the acoustic properties. It can prove useful to test both an occupied and unoccupied seat. The greater the chair's ability to absorb sound waves, the better it will be for your venue. Chairs that reverberate a great deal of sound end up distorting the sound being produced by the performance or presentation in your venue, decreasing clarity and the quality of your auditorium.

Finding the best auditorium seating for your project isn't just about looks. The acoustic properties of your chair go a long way in determining how successful your project will ultimately be.

Mahogany Furniture

The name Mahogany refers to trees or wood from a family of hardwoods called Swietenia Mahogoni, variants of which can be found in many countries of the world. A Mahogany tree can grow up to 150 feet tall and 6 feet wide so when cut it produces boards with a straight grain with an even texture. The timber has a reddish brown colour which as with most woods will darken over time. It displays a rich reddish sheen when polished which can be achieved without the use of stain, this only adds to the appeal and is part of the reason behind the popularity of Mahogany.

It is often used for musical instruments such as for the backs of acoustic guitars and drum shells as well as a wide variety of electric guitars.

In past years mahogany was a preferred material for boat and ship building due to its ability to resist water and bugs.

Mahogany is a favourable material for fine furniture and cabinet making as it is a highly durable wood able to resist insects and moisture. It is also used in making antique furniture reproductions. When making mahogany furniture it is important that the wood be kiln dried and then inspected for warping before construction so that the finished product does not warp after manufacture. Various species of the tree have become extinct in some areas but most Mahogany furniture makers have a stable source for supply as it is now being cultivated on plantations specifically for commercial purposes.

Using the large boards that the Mahogany tree is able to produce, furniture makers can create desks, tables and many other examples of furniture without seams or join lines. Mahogany is also relatively easy to work with as it is incredibly strong, easy to sand and to cut cleanly. Due to the solid durable nature of the wood, Mahogany furniture is often passed through many generations of families. To maintain the natural look of the wood, coats of furniture wax can be applied three or four times a year. This will enhance the natural grain and help nourish the wood to ensure longevity.

If concerned about purchasing an item made from Mahogany due to any possible environmental impact, look for products certified by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council). They are an independent non profit agency concerned with responsible forestry. Purchasing wood with the FSC stamp of approval could provide years of enjoyment from a solid wood item along with piece of mind that future availability of the wood is being protected.

How Much Does a Recording Studio Cost?

The cost of setting up a professional recording studio at home can vary from $500 to $20,000. If you don't have an extra room to set up a studio then you will also need to rent a place, which will cost extra. The setup cost will depend on what kind of a studio you are going to build. Are you planning to set up a serious business, which can render services to varieties of customers and charge a high fee? Or is it just a simple a home-based studio to cater to the local bands for a minimum charge? Here are a few tips to help you get an estimate of how much it may cost to set up a recording studio.

Processing the room

First of all, you need to process your room in order to make the sound quality better. Remember, a normal room or your basement was not built for sound recording and therefore will need some work before it can be converted into a good recording studio. You can purchase good quality acoustic foam and stick them on walls by yourself. One case of foam will cost anything between $70 and $300. You may need around 7 cases for a 10'X10' room. You can also take help of professionals and make the room soundproof. This is an additional cost that you can undertake if you want to render a high-quality, professional service. For a low budget studio, you can start much cheaper. There are many ways to improve room acoustics cheaply or for free. These ideas will be discussed in another article.

Hardware and software

Among the hardware equipment, you will need a computer, a soundboard, an interface, and a good microphone with a stand and microphone cable. The whole microphone set may cost you around $500 or less for a decent one. You can also get a MIDI keyboard, which will cost around $100 for a cheap starter keyboard. You will also need digital recording software, which may cost anything between $100 and $800. If you want something free, I recommend Audacity. Do a Google search, and you'll find it easily.

Musical equipment

It is advisable to keep a few pieces of musical equipment handy, in case your customers need to borrow something. This happens quite a bit. If you already have a guitar or any other instrument of your own, keep them in the studio. You may not need to invest in new musical instruments if you don't have much room in your budget for this. You can also consider investing into a few second hand instruments that are in good condition. Mostly, bands just want to have options in the studio. If you have some old beat up guitars, amps, and effects lying around, they are happy to tinker with them. This also increases the value of your studio, which helps you command a higher fee for your services.

#1 - Pro Vocal Booth & Production Room For Cheap

DUBturbo presents: (Step By Step Instructions & Pics Below ) How to build your own sound booth and recording room for cheap. See step by step pics at: forums.nichechoppers.com This is a personal journal video as I convert two rooms in our new unit into acoustically treated recording and production rooms with a sound booth conversion in the closet. Soundtrack from: www.artofbeats.com Things you'll need *Acoustical Foam - I used ebay - foamfactory - cost? $980 USD - which was enough to fill two rooms at 15x20, and two closets at 3x5 (we way overestimated but it's better to have leftovers than have to re-order just a few pieces or run out before you finish your application). Get a consultation for your room from an acoustical pro so you know what thickness, size, texture, and type of foam is best suited for your needs. Get the spray glue your foam provider recommends or sells in-house. *Paint & all accessories - Get Latex or eggshell, NOT shiny/glossy. *Nails - if some of your foam starts to fall/peal/come off over time, use tiny 3/4" nails to nail them into the wall without damaging the foam, and so you can hide the nail easily within the foam once it's nailed into the wall. *Sheets: To treat your ceiling, you'll want to hang sheets from the ceiling to the wall leaving a bow/bend in the middle, this is to dampen the noise an reflection from your ceiling. Feel free to add a few foam blocks to the ceiling as well. You'll want to hang 2 sheets, going horizontally from where ...
